Viewing tip! My school advice makes no sense.

16 June 2023 News

Your child gets a vmbo advice from primary school while the final test shows that havo is possible. This happens to almost half of the students with a migration background or practically educated parents. In the TV program Nadia, presenter Nadia Moussaid talks about this. What does this do to children and what does it mean for the rest of their lives?

Aim lower?

Nadia talks about this with four guests who experienced it themselves. One of them is Milio van de Kamp. He is now a university teacher but was once a vmbo-k student. Milo says in the program that he comes from a disadvantaged environment. In his book ‘Maybe You Should Aim Lower,’ he tells about his school time.

Alone against a system

Ruşen Koç also got a vmbo advice against his will in primary school. It is very hard to climb up after a lower school advice, he says in the TV program. ‘You stand alone against a system.’ He now fights against inequality of opportunity.
