Highly sensitive children.
Highly sensitive children are sensitive to stimuli and process them deeply. External stimuli make a stronger impression on them. They need more time and calm to process these. With high sensitivity, they can feel moods more than others or have a strong sense of justice.
Highly sensitive children get overwhelmed more easily. This can show as anger outbursts, crying, or withdrawing. These children can think very creatively and easily see information as a whole. They sometimes make unexpectedly smart remarks.
Characteristics of highly sensitive children include:
- Dislike of clothing tags
- Sensitivity to loud sounds
- Feeling others’ moods
- Difficulty with changes
- Watching first, then acting
- Care about the fate of animals
- Sense of justice
- Asking deep questions
High sensitivity is not a disease or learning disorder, but a character trait. It is important to teach a child how to manage high sensitivity and offer the right support so it can develop well. In school, a highly sensitive child who feels safe and learns in a way that fits their experience can be a good student. If the education does not match this experience, the child can seem insecure or uninterested.
