Education is full of abbreviations that can sometimes be confusing. Student monitoring system, Development perspective plan, BPV and more: what do these all really mean? Ouders & Onderwijs is 10 years old this year and with all this experience can explain exactly what these 10 common abbreviations mean.

Declaration of Admissibility

A Declaration of Admissibility is a statement that shows your child has the right to special education. This statement is given by a Partnership Tailored Education after a careful assessment.

Development perspective plan

A Development perspective plan is made for your child if they need extra support. This plan shows the goals and expected development level of your child, and also the support needed to reach these goals.

Student monitoring system

A Student monitoring system is a digital system where the progress and development of your child is tracked. The teacher uses it to monitor how your child develops in different areas.

Partnership Tailored Education

A Partnership Tailored Education is a network of schools in a region that work together to organize Tailored Education for your child. They must make sure there is enough support available if your child needs extra help.

Internal support coordinator

The internal support coordinator is a teacher or specialist within the primary school who is responsible for coordinating care and support when your child needs extra help.

Remedial teaching

Remedial teaching is extra support for when your child has difficulties with certain subjects or skills. A remedial teacher offers focused help to catch up on these delays.

BPV (Workplace learning)

BPV is an important part of mbo. These are internships where students gain practical experience in a company. This way your child learns to apply theory in practice and prepares for the job market.

PTA (Program of Tests and Final Exams)

A PTA is a document in secondary education that shows which tests your child must take, when these tests happen, and how much they count for the final grade.

VSO, TSO, NSO or BSO (Before-school, lunch break, after-school or out-of-school care)

You can arrange care around your child’s school times and schedules. This is good for your child’s social development and handy for parents who work full time.

SO (Special education)

SO is education for children who need special support because of a physical, intellectual, or behavioral disability. The goal is to give everyone the most suitable education place possible.
