Also children with only one parent in a crucial job have the right to childcare. There is confusion about the measures now that schools and daycare centers are closed. Many schools and daycare centers think they only have to care for children with two parents in crucial sectors.

Families where only one parent works, for example in healthcare or police, must first try to arrange childcare themselves. If that does not work, these parents can also ask schools and daycare centers for childcare. That is what the Ministry of Education says. Both parents with a crucial job is not a strict rule. There must be childcare so that people with crucial jobs can keep working,” says a spokesperson.

Many schools and daycare centers are confused about whether one or both parents must have a crucial job. Some organizations say in their letter to parents that they only take care of children if both parents work in such a sector. But that information is not correct. “We assume that schools and daycare centers do their best to help parents where one works in a crucial sector,” says the spokesperson.

Schools Busy Preparing Online Lessons

Schools and daycare centers will remain closed for at least three weeks because of the coronavirus. The cabinet hopes to slow down further spread. Teachers are expected to come to work to take care of children of parents with crucial jobs and arrange teaching materials so that students can work at home. This morning, the learning app Squla (for primary school children) was already overloaded.

Today and tomorrow, schools and daycare centers will see how many children need childcare. Starting Wednesday, children may have to go to another location because only a few show up. Urgent meetings are held everywhere to quickly put the new way of working into practice. Children who show even a little cold must always stay at home.
