Concerns among parents about corona effect on school advice.
Due to the school closure many children have missed lessons according to parents. A large group of parents (38%) fear that the school advice for their child will be too low. Children also worry more about the school advice according to parents. Over a quarter of parents say they worry more because of corona. This comes from a study by Ouders & Onderwijs among parents of primary school pupils in group 7 and 8.
Final test must go ahead
Despite, or because of their concerns about the school advice, a large majority of parents want the final test to go ahead (70%). The test gives children a chance to raise their school advice. Forty percent of parents are afraid that without the final test the school advice will be lower. Parents with a lower education level worry about this most.
No open days
Another concern for parents is that the open days will not take place. Forty-four percent of parents fear their child will not be able to choose the right secondary school because of this. These parents would like to contact secondary schools online, talk in person, or watch a video about the school. Half of the parents see an active role for the primary school too. For example, inviting someone from the secondary schools to come and talk in the class.
School advice procedure
Most parents are positive about how schools handle the school advice. Only 10% of parents say the procedure is not careful. Yet 19% of parents say they do not have a conversation with school about the school advice. A worrying sign.
