Cross out extra long Christmas holiday.
There will be no extra long Christmas holiday and the summer holiday will not be shortened. The Christmas holiday at primary and secondary schools will remain two weeks, while the length of the summer holiday stays at six weeks. This was announced this week by ministers Kuipers of Health and Wiersma for Primary and Secondary Education.
During the corona period there were mainly school closures in the winter months. And it is expected that corona infections will rise again in those months. The ministry therefore wanted to know if it was possible to adjust the school holidays so that pupils miss as few lessons as possible.
Research
For Ouders & Onderwijs this decision is not a surprise. We have lobbied the ministry for some time to abandon the plan. This followed a survey we held among parents, which showed that 74 percent of parents preferred no changes to the school holidays. Want to know more?
