Students who switched from primary school to secondary school last summer have, according to most parents (82%), ended up well despite the school closure. Parents are happy with the support during the corona period. This appears from research by Ouders & Onderwijs among parents of children in the first year of secondary school.

A large majority of parents (82%) think their child ended up at the right level at a secondary school after the school advice in 2020. Most parents (69%) are well informed about their child’s results. Moreover, most parents (65%) see that secondary schools take extra measures to catch up on possible delays. For example, by planning extra evaluation moments or giving extra lessons. For 78% of students, schools took action to make the transition as smooth as possible. A meeting was arranged with the secondary school, children could follow a day, or the schools called each other.

School Advice 2020

Parents are mostly satisfied (81%) with the given school advice despite the cancellation of the final test. A small group found the advice too low (14%) or too high (5%). For students who, according to parents, received too low advice, the absence of the final test did have an effect. They expected students to score higher on the final test than the given school advice. For many of these students (39%), there was also an agreement that the advice would be adjusted upward with a better final test score. For 55% of students, no action was taken by the school after the final test was canceled.
