Pre-primary and early education.
A good start is important for young children. Tailored education helps toddlers and preschoolers who need extra support, for example in language. But how does this work, and what can you do as a parent?
What is tailored education and why is it important?
Tailored education is for children aged 2.5 to 4 years who risk falling behind. At a toddler daycare or preschool, they get extra help with language, math, and social skills. Municipalities must arrange enough places for tailored education and make sure parents can get access easily. Still, many parents do not know that tailored education exists or how to sign up. Sometimes there are barriers, like complicated forms or few places.
Municipalities decide which children can join, following rules set by the national government. How they do this can differ per municipality. They look at what language parents speak at home or how the child’s language develops.
Signing up for tailored education usually goes through the consultation bureau. They check if a child qualifies. Tailored education is different from an integral child center. At an integral child center, the school and daycare are under one roof.
