What does a partnership tailored education do?

A partnership tailored education makes sure every child gets a suitable place at school. All schools in the same region work together in this.

A partnership tailored education:

• distributes money for extra support
• helps schools organize support;
• decides together if a child needs more help than the school can provide;
• assesses if a child can go to special education or special primary education and makes a declaration of admissibility
• makes agreements about how support is arranged in the region.
• has a parent and youth support point to assist parents and children

Usually, a child comes to the attention of the partnership because the school finds this necessary. Parents may also contact the parent and youth support point of the partnership in their region directly.

You do not have to wait for the school to do this. Parents are always involved in decisions that affect their child.

Who are part of a partnership tailored education?

Different schools work together in a partnership tailored education:

• Primary schools or secondary schools (these have separate partnerships)
• Schools for special primary education
• Schools for special education and practical education track (in the partnerships for special and practical education).

You as a parent cannot vote or co-manage yourself. But you do have rights, such as:

• You can always request information from the school or the partnership, such as the support plan
• You can ask questions to the school or the partnership about decisions that affect your child
• You have the right to explanation in simple language
• You can always contact the parent and youth support point if you get stuck

Each partnership tailored education has a support plan council. In this council, parents, school staff (and in secondary education also students) think along about the plans and policy of the partnership.

What are parent and youth support points?

Partnerships must have a parent and youth support point by law. This is a place that only works in the interest of parents and children, where parents and young people can go with questions, worries, or doubts about tailored education.

For example, you can go there for:

• explanation about your rights as a parent;
• tips for conversations at school;
• help if you get stuck in the support;
• information about the route to special education.

These free support points are there to help you as a parent or child.

When do you contact the parent and youth support point?

You can contact them if:

• You feel the support is not enough
• You doubt about changing to special primary education
• You disagree with the plan or offer of the school
• You have questions about a declaration of admissibility
• You want to know what support options are available in the region
