For primary and secondary education there are no changes for now. Students in secondary education must keep wearing face masks when moving around after the summer holidays. The rule that students and teachers keep one and a half meters distance from each other also remains.

Below we explain per school type how education looks after the summer holidays.

Primary schools and childcare

There are few changes. Teaching staff keep one and a half meters distance from colleagues and parents. Parents can come to school in a limited way. School camps and excursions are possible under conditions.

Secondary (special) education

Teaching staff keep one and a half meters distance from colleagues, parents and students. Face masks remain mandatory in the hallway. And in rooms where one and a half meters distance cannot be kept. If students and staff are vaccinated, they do not have to test anymore. For students not vaccinated, the government advises to use self-tests every two weeks.

Mbo, hbo and university

For the new academic year at mbo’s, hbo’s and universities, physical lessons and lectures are possible again. The one and a half meter distance rule no longer applies. Face masks are still mandatory outside lesson or lecture rooms. These can be taken off once students are in the lecture room. Additional measures apply. For example, a maximum of 75 students in lecture rooms.
