Self deciding vaccination youths 12-18 years.

7 July 2021 News

The health council gives a positive advice on vaccination against COVID-19 for young people between 12–18 years. The cabinet has adopted this advice. Young people can decide themselves whether to make an appointment for vaccination.

Well-considered decision

According to the law, young people older than 16 years can decide themselves whether they want a vaccination or not. For young people between 12–16 years, the idea is that parents and children discuss and agree together on whether to vaccinate or not. If they cannot agree, the opinion of the young person is decisive. This means that young people from 12 years can also get vaccinated without the permission of the parent or guardian, if this is the well-considered wish and decision of the child. This is set out in the Medical Treatment Agreement Act (WGBO).
