Education organizations stop talks about recovery plan.
Education organizations stop talks with the cabinet about the plan to restore quality in education. Ouders & Onderwijs, Voor Werkende Ouders, LAKS, the education councils and trade unions see no chance to continue meaningful talks about the 'recovery plan' due to the newly announced education cuts.
The education recovery plan
Education faces several big problems, such as declining quality and a shortage of teachers. Last November the organizations talked with the government about tackling these key issues in education. We argued for a joint strategy, with structural investments, realistic solutions for the teacher shortage, a broad view of learning and development, and a strengthening of participation. Together with the whole sector and the government, a plan would be made.
Extra cuts
On Prinsjesdag it became clear that education faces large cuts of 1.1 billion euros. In the newly published Spring memorandum even more cuts appear: over 400 million euros extra.
Stop talks about recovery plan
The cuts make talks about investing in better education impossible according to all parties. Ouders & Onderwijs, Voor Werkende Ouders, LAKS, PO-raad, VO-raad, AVS, AOb, CNV and Fvov therefore leave the consultations with government and cabinet about fixing the big problems in education. We issued a joint statement about this.
What parents think
The newly released Staat van de Ouder shows that the problems in education are also more visible to parents. They see the quality decline and more often notice the effects of the teacher shortage. And the bigger the class, the more problems they see with their child. That is why we argue for smaller classes. Read all about it in the Staat van de Ouder.
