Preparation for exam during corona time sufficient according to parents.

Monday 17 May started for exam students in secondary education the central final exam. Despite the corona measures, a large majority of parents think the preparation for the exam was enough. This comes from a study by Ouders & Onderwijs among the Landelijk Ouderpanel.

Exam preparation went well

Last year around this time we had just been a few months in the first lockdown. Then it was decided not to hold the central final exam. This year the exams do take place, but with adjusted rules. According to 59% of parents, the preparation for the exam went well. Exam students were allowed to go to school during the last school closure. But due to the reopening of secondary education for all classes on 1 March, many exam students got less physical lessons. This is confirmed by 44% of parents.

Parents happy exams continue

More than two thirds of parents are happy that this year the central exam will go ahead in an adjusted form. For example, students can spread the exams over the first and second time slots, the second time slot is longer, and candidates get an extra retake. Also, they can exclude one subject (a non-core subject) from the final result. 54% of parents have extra worries about the final exam due to corona.

As said, one of the adjusted rules is that the central final exam can be spread over several time slots this year: 63% of parents say they could decide together with the student about this exam spread.
