Scenarios to keep education open as long as possible.
If the coronavirus rises again, schools and childcare must stay open as long as possible. This is the government's starting point and is included in sector plans for education and childcare. The sector plan has four phases with measures for schools and childcare to limit infections.
Phases
The sector plan was made in consultation with the education field. There are four phases with matching measures in such a manual. They are, from dark green to red, as follows:
- Phase 1 (dark green, prevention) has basic measures. For example: washing hands, coughing and sneezing into elbow, staying home and testing when having symptoms;
- Phase 2 (green, prevention) has precautionary measures. For example: more attention to people with a fragile health;
- Phase 3 (orange, intervention) has measures to limit contacts. For example: walking routes, wearing face masks when moving, keeping distance;
- Phase 4 (red, intervention) has measures that go further to limit contacts. For example fewer children, students or teachers in rooms and locations.
Making manuals
The plan is that schools and childcare make a manual for their own locations. In different scenarios it is clear what steps education takes in different phases of the pandemic. Because each school and location is different, schools make manuals for their own context and location(s). These manuals must be presented to the school participation council by 1 October 2022 at the latest.
