Schools closed from Monday.

Primary schools, secondary schools, mbo schools, universities of applied sciences and universities are all closed from Monday. All education comes to a stop. The cabinet follows the latest advice from the OMT. There are great concerns about the rapid rise of the much more contagious Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

Schools will close again.

The measures start on Monday 20 December. Primary schools, secondary schools, mbo schools, universities of applied sciences and universities will all close until at least 10 January. On 3 January it will be decided if lessons will start again after the Christmas holidays and (if not) if teaching will be online. Students will then follow lessons remotely.

Exceptions

Exceptions are first for vulnerable children and children whose at least one parent has a critical job. Parents can use emergency care on their fixed contract and childcare days. There are also exceptions for students who follow practical subjects (vmbo, practical education track and special education) and exam students. School exams in the pre-exam year must also continue. Childcare locations for children aged 0 to 4 years remain open. Other childcare does not.

Mbo schools

Mbo schools will also all close from Monday. Points of attention are:

• Students may still take exams and tests.
• Practical subjects may continue.
• Vulnerable students with special attention for mbo 1 and mbo 2 may still go to school.
• If there is a library within the school, it may remain open.
• Students who go to school keep 1.5 meters distance, follow walking routes, are advised to wear a face mask during lessons and exams. Face masks are required during movements.

Primary schools and after-school care

At the previous press conference, last Tuesday, it was already clear that primary schools, special primary education schools and after-school care would close next Monday.
