Possible regional closing of schools.
Schools remain open for now. But closing schools regionally is still possible. This was clear from the cabinet's press conference on Tuesday evening about the corona measures.
Possible closing of schools
‘We are considering closing schools in secondary education.’ Although education was hardly discussed during Tuesday evening’s press conference, prime minister Mark Rutte clearly left open the possibility of regional school closures. This probably concerns regions where infection numbers rise sharply, such as Rotterdam-Rijnmond, South Holland South and Twente.
Parents’ evenings only online
The cabinet stresses that schools are only open for following lessons. Therefore, there is a strong advice to hold activities like team afternoons and parents’ evenings remotely. In addition, infection risks around educational institutions are a concern. Movements of pupils around schools could be reduced by making agreements with municipalities and local businesses. The cabinet also thinks stricter compliance with existing measures in schools is needed.
Call
Ouders & Onderwijs calls on education to stay in good contact with parents now that meetings at school are no longer allowed. Good communication between parents and school is crucial at this time. Alternatives for visiting open days will also have to be offered.
What’s next?
The cabinet will come back later on the possible regional closing of schools. As soon as more is known, we will process this in our FAQ. Soon Ouders & Onderwijs will conduct a survey among parents about education and corona again. Want to share your opinion about your child’s education?
