Spread exams? Notify before April 23.
The central final exam will take place this year with some adjustments. One of them is that students can choose to spread their exams over different periods. If your child uses this, it must be known to the school before April 23.
Spread over three periods
Exam candidates can take their exams in different periods. What are the periods and what are they for? This year there are three periods to take exams:
– First period: May 17 to June 1
– Second period: June 14 to June 25
– Third period: July 6 to July 9
In periods 1 and 2 a student can take exams. In periods 2 and 3 students can also retake exams.
Focus points
What can you as a parent pay attention to? And what are other important focus points? We list them below.
- Indicate on time that your child wants to take exams spread out. This must be known to the school before April 23, otherwise the school will decide for your child. Doubt? Then discuss with the school what is a wise choice.
- Consider a risk when taking exams spread out. It may be that a student must stay home in the second period due to illness or quarantine. Then that student can only use the third period after that. In the third period (4 days) there will not be enough time to take several subjects for the first time and also retake exams. Prefer to retake exams only in the third period instead of the second? That also brings a risk, because if your child is ill or in quarantine in the third period, they are not allowed to go to school.
- Your child must have completed all school exams (vmbo gl/tl, havo and vwo) before May 16, 2021. Also if your child takes one or more exams in the second period. Only if a student could not complete the school exams on time before the first period due to illness, quarantine or another good reason, extra time can be given to complete the school exams. This happens in consultation with the school. It must be completed before the student takes the central exam in a later period.
- Students taking exams in the vocational profile subject finish this subject in the 2020-2021 school year with a school exam. This replaces the central written and practical exam (cspe). Many schools for vmbo-bb and vmbo-bk use flexible digital exams (central exams). The dates are set by the schools themselves from April 5 to July 23, 2021. The three periods do not apply here.
Ill or in quarantine during the third period
It may be that the student has not been able to finish all exams after the third period due to illness or another valid reason. In that case, the exam secretary of the school will contact the Exam Desk. They will check if there are options for the student to still make up or retake the missing exams.
