Het Eligant Lyceum: parent-friendly secondary school.
Secondary school Eligant lyceum in Zutphen is nominated for the Ouders & Onderwijs award for the most parent-friendly school in the Netherlands. Read here why.
What makes Eligant lyceum parent-friendly?
The school works with the triangle student – parents – school. In coaching talks, parents take part equally several times a year in their child’s development. These talks are not only on the school’s initiative but also from parents and children. The jury also values the workshops the school gives for parents. With themes like ‘managing your stress’ and ‘my child online,’ parents get tools to talk about these at home with their child.
What parents say about the school
Eligant lyceum is approachable for parents and works with them in many ways. Parents say it is good that they mostly decide when coaching talks happen. Elsewhere in the school, the door is always open too. Parents feel seen, which builds trust. One parent says: ‘Parent-friendliness is in the whole school: ‘from administration to the rector’.
I think about a thousand times a week that I would love to have gone to a school like that.
What Eligant lyceum says about parents
According to Eligant lyceum, school and parents cannot do without each other. That is why parents of new first-year students can meet their child’s coach before the summer holiday. During a student’s whole school career, there are several triangle talks where student, coach, and parents agree on the student’s development. The school also values what parents think. Through the focus group and surveys among parents, feedback is collected to make the school even better.
Other candidates for the award
Eligant lyceum is one of three schools competing for the award ‘Most parent-friendly secondary school in the Netherlands.’ The other secondary schools are Goese lyceum in Goes and Vathorst college in Amersfoort. Also, in the primary education and special primary education categories, three schools compete for our unique award: Al-Ghazali in Rotterdam, De Ontdekking in Maarheeze, and De Schakel in Utrecht.
