The Vathorst College: parent-friendly secondary school.
Secondary school Vathorst college in Amersfoort is nominated for the Ouders & Onderwijs award for the most parent-friendly school in the Netherlands. Read here why.
What makes Vathorst college parent-friendly?
Parents are very well informed and involved by the school in many ways. What the jury especially appreciates is that parents are involved in the learning process of their child through the triangle talks. At this secondary school, art and culture are connecting factors: teachers encourage creativity in students and parents enjoy the stage evenings.
What parents say about the school
According to parents, Vathorst college is a school that keeps them involved with what happens at school: ‘Being kept well informed helps a lot to feel involved with the school. The school keeps confirming that we have chosen the right school for our children.’ In addition, parents are involved in many active ways. Many parents offer their own workplace for the community service and both teachers and parents take part in student performances. Going there helps to ease contact: ‘You also see the teachers in a different role.’ Finally, parents appreciate the triangle talks. They learn that their child is responsible for their own learning process. It is nice how the school guides this and also offers parents tools in this guiding role.
I once noticed at the parent evening the statement: a child here is more than just a grade. That really makes the school true..
