What makes de ontdekking parent-friendly?

Parents notice that their children go to a school where they are seen. Contact with the teacher is very easy and there is much room for dialogue. The jury notices that the relationship between parents and school is very mutual: ‘Parents feel very involved with the school and the education and like to give something back to the school’. The embracing of diversity of parents and children also stood out: ‘Other cultures and languages are seen as an enrichment for everyone’.

What parents say about the school

Primary school de ontdekking shows very openly how the cooperation between teachers and children works according to parents. At the start and end of the day, teachers and other school staff stand outside to welcome parents and children. This makes the lines short and the contact good: ‘It is a moment when you as a child and parent are seen and can pass something on to the teacher’. They also appreciate how the school embraces the diversity of parents, including those who speak other languages: ‘Nice that children learn that not everyone is the same’.

Primary school de ontdekking in maarheeze is one of three schools competing for the award ‘Most parent-friendly primary school in the netherlands’. The other primary schools competing are Al-Ghazali in Rotterdam and de Schakel in Utrecht. Also, in the category secondary and secondary special education, three schools are competing for our unique award: Het Goese Lyceum in Goes, Het Eligant Lyceum in Zutphen and het Vathorst College in Amersfoort.

About the award

Ouders & Onderwijs turns 10 this year. To celebrate, we will present an award this autumn to the most parent-friendly schools in the Netherlands: one primary school and one secondary school. With this award, we want to positively highlight parent involvement and parent-friendliness in education. We also want to honor parents and schools.
