Electives mbo.
During the mbo training your child can follow electives. What kind of subjects are these? How much time does the elective part take? And will the results appear on the diploma? We tell you here.
The elective part
Every mbo training has three parts: a basic part, a profile part, and an elective part. In the elective part your child chooses subjects to broaden or deepen knowledge. For example, to make moving within mbo or to hbo easier. Or to increase job chances.
Which electives are there?
The elective part includes subjects with lessons about personal development, student qualities and communication. The content focuses on your child and their living environment. Topics include making choices, taking decisions, ways to work independently and ways to solve problems. Mbo schools decide which electives they offer.
How much time does the elective part take?
The elective part is 15 percent of the training. The hours your child spends on an elective vary per mbo level. An elective part is 240, 480 or 720 hours. A student who does an entry training, an mbo level 1, spends 240 hours on it. For a basic vocational training (mbo level 2) there are 480 hours for electives. And for a professional training (mbo level 3) or a middle management training of three years there are even 720 hours to fill with electives.
Diploma and transfers
Does your child pass the mbo training? The grades earned for the elective part appear on the mbo diploma. Also, your child gets a separate certificate showing which electives were completed. Future employers find it important to know which extra skills were gained. If your child switches to another training exemptions for electives already completed successfully are possible.
