These costs must be paid by the school.
Some costs must be paid by the school. Parents do not have to pay for these. Primary school and secondary education pay at least for school books and teaching materials. The school also pays for materials needed to follow additional educational offers like extra subjects or bilingual education.
School pays for books
In primary and secondary education, the school pays for all needed books and materials. These are free for students and parents. This includes textbooks, workbooks, project books, tables books, exam trainings, exam bundles, school’s own learning materials and related CDs and DVDs, and digital teaching materials that require a license.
Materials for additional educational offers also free
This also applies to materials needed for additional educational offers, like extra subjects. It is important to know that not only the books and materials for the required curriculum are free, but also those for optional or extra subjects. This includes bilingual education, the technasium, sports classes and others.
What about a deposit for school books?
Schools can have a deposit system for free teaching materials. This explains what happens if materials are lost or damaged. The deposit system is voluntary. Even after the school participation council’s parent group agrees, you decide yourself if you want to join. If you do not sign the deposit system, the books must still be given. If you agree to the deposit system, the school can enforce the rules. In some cases, the school can ask the book supplier to handle the deposit system. The school still remains responsible.
